What toy did you convert to?

I'm sure everyone had that one figure or vehicle etc they absolutely hate the look of, but how many of you actually ended up eventually liking that toy you hated and ended up buying it?

I couldn't stand the look of tri-logo MOC's, never liked them and always avoided them until I accidentally stumbled upon one and held one in my hands, then quickly decided I loved it and ended up buying more tri's. I haven't actually changed my mind on a specific toy yet that I hate, such as Yak Face or red or blue Snag, but maybe one day if I see these figures often and for long enough I could actually end up liking the look of them.

If you haven't gone through this process yet then what is the one toy you currently hate that you fear you may end up liking and buying in future?

Tri-logo and PBP Boba Fetts. I used to hate them as they were the 'wrong' colour (I was younger then) :). I've seen the error of my ways now though!

I originally had no intention of buying Sy Snootles and the Rebo Band. It wasn't because I didn't like the characters in the film (the Jabba's Palace scene is actually my favourite scene in ROTJ) but because they weren't numbered on the 92 backs. Also I didn't think they were that well designed in keeping with the rest of the line. Strange because IMO some of the other ROTJ characters are the most interesting figures to collect.

But then I picked up a poor condition set in a beater box for a good price and got up close and personal with them. It changed my mind and I had to source a near mint set in a very good condition box. Now they're one of my favourite bits in my collection. Funny how things change.

I originally had no intention of buying variants but when I began to buy childhood lots and lots from other collectors then I thought it was funny to see what I could find of variants in a lot and now I collect variants

I know subzero hates variant collecting so it's a shame that his thread has been ruined by two people talking about it, but I also never thought I'd get into variant collecting, then I read Javi's book on the Spanish line, and now I've got hooked on buying them too.

Variant collecting is so much more expensive though if you collect one of the specialist lines like Lili Ledy, PBP or Meccanno. If you're thinking about getting into it, think twice!

I did not know he hate variant collecting  But I hope we did not damage his thread :D I agree that it is expensive. Before I started to collect variants for real. Then I also collected some of the new line figures and vehicle. Today I do not have the money for the new line stuff, I have not had money for it in many years and the vintage star wars toy makes me more happy, but I still have the new line toy that I bought many years ago. Sometimes I think about selling it so I can use the money for vintage variants

Bootlegs for me, still have zero appeal now, just don't get them.

Each to their own though. :)

The only thing I've changed my mind on is actualy variants.

I thought "ffs this is just for people who've ran out of old plastic to collect and just can't stop". Then I became a person who ran out of old plastic to collect and just couldnt stop. I don't think I went totally u-turn on it. I mean, I don't note different tints of orange hair, I just scrounged about for poorly described auctions for the main ones.

Sounds silly but for years I didn't have a loose set. I thought having a set of MOCs was at least as good if not better. Then when by chance a couple of years ago I ended up with a few loose figures, I began to appreciate the difference and being able to physically hold them. This is one reason why grading has never appealed to me, I often see the same argument used for carded/MISB etc.

Doesn't sound silly to me at all. A couple of years ago I bought an action figure filled Darth Vader case. After opening it I could smell the plastic of the figures inside, which brought me instantly into a nostalgic mood. After that touching the figures with stiff limbs brought me completely back to my childhood. As if I had taken them from the cardbacks (you should be ashamed of yourself... ) and started playing with them. Even today opening this case gives me the same feeling. We humans are some kind

Pop up R2. Can't say I hate it but I did think the figure was over hyped considering the value. But one came along at a cracking price and meant I could complete my loose run. Even a few years ago it was something I felt priced out of and didn't really care about enough to spend the going rate.

I only have one MOC and that's because it's a 92 back and it enabled me to keep track of what figures I needed. I don't think Its the same looking at your figures with a bubble in front of it, and nothing beats holding them yourself. The smell of plastic when you unlock a zip lock bag brings back so many memories...
