New "Preserved Grade" Designation: At CAS, preservation is of paramount importance. For that reason, we are thrilled to announce our new "Preserved Grade" designation, which we hope will reduce the incentive for collectors to uncirculated grade ("U-grade") cut card and "beater" MOCs (that is, MOC figures with very rough and worn cards) with other companies and, as a result, we hope that we will positively impact all vintage toy collecting hobbies. Simply, the Preserved Grade ("P-grade") will allow collectors to submit to CAS a cut card or beater MOC figure, which we will preserve in cases of various sizes described below. We will assign a grade only to the figure inside the cut card or beater MOC, and ignore the bubble and card on which the figure resides. This way, folks have the benefit of 99% UV-resistant acrylic to protect and display these examples, and collectors need not forever alter or destroy what has remained sealed for decades in order for the figure alone to receive a grade. We will note on the label the toy company, toy line, year released, and figure, as we do for other items - see label example above. While our labels for our typical toy grades of the entire example has "CAS" in red, green or blue script depending on the grade category, the P-grade will have CAS written in black script, so folks can easily distinguish them. We will also include the word "Preserved" on the label below the figure grade to indicate that it is a P-grade. This idea was born from discussions with many collectors, so we appreciate your advice on the best way to provide this preservation service to the community. Because cut cards come in many sizes, we have various sizes and pricing tiers set forth below (we will adjust the rails to different angles depending on how each card has been cut): (1) Standard cut card case - 4" width x 6" height - $29.99 (same as our loose figure price) (2) POTF cut card with coin - 4" width x 8" height - $29.99 (3) Cut card where just top half, but not side, of card is cut - 6" width x 6" height - $29.99 (4) Beater MOC / only minor cuts to the card - standard MOC case - 6" width x 9" height - $34.99 ($5 less than our standard MOC price) (5) Custom job - 3-pack figures, Max Rebo Band MOC, etc. - any example where a figure has severely damaged card or bubble - price depends on size, etc. Ask us for a quote. Finally, we will also offer our bubble protection for any of these pricing tiers. As with our MOC bubble protectors, the price will range from $15 for top and both sides protection; to $20 for top, bottom, and both sides protection; to $25 for top, bottom, both sides, and front of the bubble protection. We are in the process of grading our first P-grade examples, and will share those with you all soon.
