That Clash Of The Titans Smiths display is incredible - never seen one of those before - amazing.
Got a few bits of the Mattle line myself including a boxed Kraken which was something I had been looking for for ages. For me, it's the best box art from any line, it's a masterpiece - all the artwork for that line is, especially love Charon too!

Outstanding stuff Paul, hopefully catch up when all this virus stuff has settled down mate.

I've only ever seen one other Smiths display from my days of scouring auction sites and fairs meticulously for 25 years but the other was a bit beat up.
You are correct on the artwork, the COTT artwork is right up there with the old vintage Airfix models and action man.
I nearly contacted you at end of last Summer as i was in Buxton with our lass(ex) but realised you didn't live there :lol:

You did well to get a nice Kraken.

Got it off Chris Malbon at Metropolis - unused - and he wasn't giving it away

I've not watched the remake - from what I saw of the trailer it looked very typical of movies churned out today - loads of over the top CG, more flash bang wallop than something with a decent cast and who can top Ray Harryhausen?

Maybe it's just me but SFX in films no longer hold any magic, I'm not in awe watching these types of films now, when you see stuff like Raiders of the Lost Ark it's incredible to see and wonder how it was done. I think the computer and modern effects has taken a lot of that away.

God, I sound like a miserable old sod...

The new one with Sam Worthington is, well, just okay althoughi will watch anything relating to Greek mythology.
It's funny isn't it how effects with near perfect cg has taken away a bit of wonderment.
Less is more sometimes.
I remember the first time i saw the AT ATs on Hoth, i was sure they had gotten Ray Harryhausen to do them.
One of my fave scenes.
One of my biggest regrets is missing out on a talk and show of his models at the Winding Wheel in Chesterfield about 15 years ago.

I think we're all becoming miserable sods don't worry.

Was great catching up earlier my old buddy.
Make sure you stay around, your Palitoy runs and Imperial set ups were a benchmark for a lot of collectors I've known over the years and an inspiration for me.

That's a wonderful Clash of the Titans set up you have! Although I was definitely first and foremost a child of Star Wars, as a kid I also loved any good adventure film and COTT was right up there! As an impressionable young boy, seeing Harryhausen's superb stop-motion effects in the likes of COTT and 'Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger' (another film from the great year of 1977, which I remember seeing upon its release in the long-since defunct Ware cinema in Herts, aged 5 :-D) was a joy to behold!

Thanks for sharing your wonderful collection and reminding us of great times passed.

I was gutted when he got crushed.
Also think Tom Baker was in that as a naughty Arab unless that was the slightly earlier one.
Kali with 3 pairs of arms was damn cool too, always wanted a model of that sexy bitch!

It was indeed the one with the Minotaur (or Minoton, as the film called its version - played by no less a person than Peter Mayhew! :-D). Here's the trailer:

I believe the Sinbad film with Tom Baker was 'The Golden Voyage of Sinbad', from 1973 (released in the UK in January 1974) (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071569/), where he played Koura. That was also the Sinbad film which featured Kali, and yes I agree, she was very cool!

Brought back some memories, saw this at the Gaumont in Sheffield when it came out.
Could've sworn i saw the Tom Baker one too but i would have only been 6yrs old in '74, unless i saw it at the Saturday matinees when my Mum used to drop me off at the ABC in Sheffield in the late 70s when she did her shopping.

The trailer does give quite a bit away for someone who hadn't seen it.

Love the Clash of the Titans, I think I mentioned these last time we chatted and have managed to dig out the monster pics and bios from the back of the Clash of the Titans promotion Smiths crisps, I especially remember them being on Monster Munch. Shame I didn't keep the whole packs! These were my spares, I think I sent off a number of these and was sent a voucher, which when presented at my local ABC in Rochdale they handed me a brand new carded Perseus. I remember being the envy of all the other kids as I sat there and watched the film with my unopened Carded figure clutched safely in my hands.



You're definitely the inspiration behind my collecting beyond Star Wars again.
