Hi All

Well, the inevitable has happened and my collection has outgrown my one Detolf cabinet. I really like them, especially as they aren't hugely expensive, but it is a little small in some respects.

I see Ikea have a new range called Nornas and the display cabinet looks pretty cool. Just wondering if anyone has one and what you think and also if the wood needs painting/treating?

Cheers :D

Its says in the product features:

"- Untreated solid pine is a durable natural material that can be painted, oiled or stained according to preference."

So, it does seem that it's up to you on the final finish, or leaving it unfinished. It will darken with age if left untreated, but that's not a bad thing.

It's a nice design, but I do think for displaying a collection, there is a lot of 'dead space' under it...

Yeah, I wondered if it looked good left untreated, or better to paint it (silver maybe...).

Agree about the space underneath, but maybe for boxed ships... :D

Have you maximised the space in the Deltof with the acrylic step displays that are available?

To be honest, no, as I mix the shelves with loose and MOCs, so not sure the steps would allow the acrylic cases for the MOCs to fit... As shown:

Plus, I envisage the collection growing, so need to plan accordingly

I too am almost out of space within my two glass cabinets. I display all my loose figures in these along with a few MOC's.

I've actually bought a couple of picture ledges from IKEA today to put along one wall and move my acrylic cased MOC's onto these.

I have 2 detolf and the space on top and around them is my total available display space. It helps to limit what I buy as lack of space means most larger boxed vehicles and playsets are off the agenda. It means I have to spend more time planning how things will fit and work together and I find that more enjoyable thaN just buying, buying, buying without any focus.

I have three deltof and I find that they are very adaptable, hung an x wing from the top so hangs inside the top section with one below and made an extra shelf on one level on each by cutting four dowel to about 4 inches and spraying grey to match the metal and fixing with clear cable ties to the metal, looks good and adds an extra shelf, with green house glass cut to size, can see the need for the bigger display as tie inter and falcons will never fit, and this nornas looks nice. But always amazed by what you can put in a deltof and it takes up little space, three together and you have a lot of space above but will need dusting on top :)

Picture shelves are perfect for MOCs. Recently bought 3 from here https://www.3ddisplays.co.uk/shelves-c8/wall-fixing-shelves-c63 The nice thing about the acrylic, is that it's so inconspicuous, so the shelves themselves don't 'seem' to take up much space.

This is the result:
