*Never - being if you've never read Star Wars Weekly

Been slowly working my way through the vintage Marvel SWW and found that Jabba had popped up in a random story. No idea what guidence the illustrator was given (presumably none) but thought I'd share these pics of Jabba as the creature from the black lagoon! Although he does lose his fins once you get past the cover.

The marvel jabba was based on another alien that Stuart Freeborn created. As the Declan M scene had been cut due to time and money constraints on the proposed SFX, no creature reference existed for marvel, so they picked a random alien :)

I had the privilege of handling the original mask some years ago when it was found.. :)

Ha, Dr Seuss Jabba!

(still looks better than Jabba from the Special Edition!)

it truly is terrible - worst CGI possible and dates the film far more than any of the original special effects. What was George thinking...

The mask ( or something based on it ) was used for a background character on Bespin, but I don't think he made it on-screen. Behind-the-scenes shots exist. The Marvel adaptation included him again though. ~Marvel love their background rabitty guy.

In TFA we see a few people on that Republic planet that gets blown up by Starkiller Base. One of them look decidedly rabitty and I wonder if its that species again.

There were a couple of Mosep masks made by Stuart, they'e milling around in the Cantina, much like the fly and the mantis. They were then re-used for both Bespin and in Jabba's palace. The masters of re-cycling.. :)

Cool pics, Andy. I've seen pics of the Bespin version standing beside a jauntily dressed Snaggletooth but I'm buggered if I can find it.
