Somebody banned Dave on Echo just for promoting FF?

People promote their groups and other things in my group all the time, if it's shite or not relevant then I just delete it or ask them to stop. A post about a UK event for Vintage collectors being advertised in a UK group full of Vintage collectors is surely relevant?

Say I buy a loose mixed lot of figures from Eco, and find that amongst them is a rare variant worth 3 or 4 times what I payed for it, You already have one in your collection…so decide to sell it on to fund another purchase.
I'm not going to message the seller and say…I found this really rare figure amongst the looses can i sell it on for it's true value. You would be an idiot to highlight the value and then sell it on for what you payed for it. Isn't part of fun of collecting finding that little gem that is worth considerably more than you payed for it, surely there's nothing better… haven't we all sold on something which turned out to be of value in our past, and regretted it…isn't that the whole learning process for the newbie collector?

And recently I understand Dave Tree was banned for advertising his Farthest From event on your page?

What? And then "Echo Live" appears? Why would EB not want to support the longest established and best pure vintage SW event in the UK? Looks like the perfect marriage! And then to start up what can only be considered a rival event? And claiming it's not a rival event is going to be hard to deny when it clashes with FF.

I'd be interested to hear the reasons why supporting the best vintage event in the country was not in EB's member's, or their admin's, interests. Not entitled to hear them but I would genuinely like to know.

I've jist checked dates and there is no clash between Echo Base Live and Farthest From, beginning and end of April?

I specifically tried to pick a date that didnt impact on any existing events.

Just to clarify...

Jamie, you werent banned for any selling practices or anything like that, it was a disagreement between you and an admin.

And Clawrence

Yes that is part of the rush, finding a gem in the rough. But if that guys brand new to the hobby and you post it for sale days later for a lot more does that feel like community spirit? People have pointed out rare variants to new sellers on Echo accidentaly selling cheap and told them pricing advice, it happened with a red rectangle R5 2 nights ago.

Just to clarify your clarification, my disagreement with said admin was about exactly what I specified.

Seriously Adam? Nope. Have you seen me? I doubt Mr Bean would feel threatened!

I don't know Jamie: last two occasions I ran into you you robbed me of stacks of cash. Admittedly, I did walk away with loads of SW for the collection, but it's only because I threatened by your generous pricing :D

crikey, I post up a Farthest From update and all this in the space of a few minutes.

I've not been banned from Echo Base, however I took the decision a while back to not post there any more. Most posts were offering assistance or retrieving information when no one else was able to help, but there was a mentality of entitlement - which is indicative of ALL Facebook groups - that I just didn't like, so decided not to lose any more energy on it.

Simple as :)

One of the weirdest traits in Star Wars toy collecting is the burning need to be recognized (you really don't see this elsewhere in other toy collecting), this might be posting everywhere to buying something just to feed an ego, but what worries me more is the lack of time taken to stop, listen and learn if someone is willing help. As a hobby, there are more reference books and online resources about every aspect than any other toy area of collecting, save perhaps diecast and rail, but a total lack of willingness to use them because people want the shortcut and the answers now.

I want to see this hobby grow and evolve for the better. Regardless of how long in the tooth you may or may not be, there's so much amazing stuff to pick up and learn, which in turn will make better collectors. Back when I started Farthest From, I said to leave your ego at the door, you have the excited collector who is rediscovering their love for the toys and you have the owners of some of the biggest collections globally, but they are all together and all one. Don't believe me, come down to one.

Adam, you might not believe this, but the next Farthest From was for the 10th of April, I moved the date to allow breathing space and folk the chance to do both if they wanted :)
As to comments about competing events, I really don't see it that way, no one can stop anybody doing their own thing if they want to, and in a way all goes towards building a bigger better future, it just all depends on your point of view and where you would like to see the hobby go.

Just my thoughts.

Dave.

I've met you, he hasnt, and I've read the PM's and can see why he felt it was a threat. Would you ban someone from Yavin if you felt they had threatened you?

And Dave, damn it, I was trying to avoid a date conflict issue with FF but I think I put the date out before the most recent one was announced.

More than happy to work together in the future to avoid clashes again.

Cheers for clearing that up Dave. Sorry EB, misunderstanding. I withdraw the accusation.

And as for entitlement we ask someone to put a name and date up with their sale items and get this haha

Almost breaks SWFUK's one rule lol!

Surely its not a lot to ask is it??
