Right all I have been trying to find out whether a empire strikes back poster I have is actually worth anything - on eBay what looks like the same poster sold for £250-£400.

I know nothing about poster valuations - the poster was my brothers so am unsure whether it's a reproduction or a original the mark on the bottom is ptw532.

The file I have attached isn't my poster but it looks exactly the same.

I have a feeling it's not genuine but can someone just rule it out for me please?

Hi
Unfortunately due to the quality of the photo you have uploaded there is no way to visually determine if the poster is real or not. I can tell what to look for in a real poster though.

The image is of the 1980 US one sheet advance for Empire. The poster should be 27" X 41" in size and it should have the words ADVANCE ONE SHEET printed on the white edging in the bottom left corner and EMPIRE STRIKES BACK STAR WARS II 80001 printed along the bottom right. The poster will be single sided and on thick paper, might even be lining backed.

When looking at the age the general state and type of paper is a good indicator, you could reasonably expect some yellowing on the White edging somewhere due to age, unless it has been kept rolled up its entire life, in which case sun and air won't have done their thing, it supposed to be 35 years old after all.

If it is the real deal then dealer prices go high on this one but private sales never match dealer prices, likewise dealers pay pennies on the pound and look for 100's % profit when they flip items.

I'm not familiar with the ptw532 tag so I can't help you there. I would recommend finding a reputable specialist to verify the poster before you sell it, most dealers will be happy enough to offer an assessment and there are plenty of them dotted up and down the land.

Hope that helps.

Hello there, if the poster is yours why would you have no knowledge of it whatsoever?

The Star Wars Trilogy poster is from 1983, it is however actually one of the few UK quads that has been reproduced. If it's a new copy it wont have fold lines, and may well have a contemporary date on it. Without seeing a good pic of your actual one it's really hard to say.

Another issue with this particular poster is that most of them are trimmed down (they were used in the smaller poster frames on the tube rather than at cinemas). Theatrical ones are 30X40 inches and at the top of the image can see the whole of the top of Vader's domed helmet. Trimmed ones are slightly smaller and they are cropped so that you cant see the highest part of the dome.

Here is a reprint: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Star-Wars-1977-british-quad-trilogy-reprint-/151049100031?hash=item232b3a5aff:g:v94AAOxywh1TDsOn

Here is an original: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/STAR-WARS-MOVIE-POSTER-1980S-BRITISH-QUAD-TRILOGY-RR-/160507253546?hash=item255efa532a:m:m9Go-E690kF11WUPgtPYwHA

Hope this helps.

It was my brothers, I have been going through his toys etc, in family home, so not sure when and where he got it. (My knowledge on posters and values are minimal)

I tried to upload a picture but the file is too large (highly frustrating). The picture I uploaded was from a recent auction of a similar poster

Thanks for the info, very much appreciated. I need to take another look.
